I have been looking for an excuse to add some robots to my portfolio and this little guy may become a permanent fixture. He’s only in the beginning stages but he is showing a lot of promise. Check out the robot love below:

New ideas and doodles
Yesterday I realised that meetings can be used as bonus time to work on new ideas. Rather than nodding off in abject boredom as I’m wont to do, I doodled in my workbook in an effort to stay awake. I have the attention span of a gnat and a 1.5 hour meeting is beyond the scope of my concentration, so doodling becomes a defence mechanism.

Today’s random pretty comes from Mattias Adolfsson who brings us his wonderful vision of Star Wars as it would have looked during the Baroque. (Yes, I am a geek, as if you needed any further proof ^-^). Mattias is a freelance illustrator living in Sweden. He uses pen and ink to create these quirky illustrations and colours are added with watercolours.

Fleshing out ideas | Part 2
It’s been more than a week again and I am still working on my next t-shirt design as and when there is time. I still find it amazing that more often than not, what started of as a good idea in my head, turns out to be completely different once it’s on paper. As a reminder here is my initial preparation sketch for this idea (click on the images to see the larger view). After much tweaking, quite a bit has changed from my original idea.

Fleshing out ideas
The hardest part of a new design for me is taking what seem like a great idea in my head and getting it to work in the real world. People are often shocked when I tell them how long it takes to make a decent illustration. There seems to be a misconception that making art / design is quick and easy. And to be fair, I know some artists who do manage to produce quality work in very little time. Unfortunately this is not the case for all of us.
